What's so Special About the Air Jordan 1 Low UNC?

Air Jordan 1 sneakers have been around since 1985 when they caused quite a stir on the basketball court and - eventually - beyond.

Designed for the Dunkman himself, Michael Jordan, these shoes were first made in the colorway of his then-professional NBA team, the Chicago Bulls.

With a bold black and red overlay theme, those first Air Jordan 1 had the details that all Air Jordan 1 low fans have come to love: the leather trademark Nike Swoosh, the contrasting heel, and of course, the official images of the Dunkman himself set deep into the leather panel, letting everyone know who these shoes were created for.

There had never quite been a basketball sneaker like the Air Jordan 1 before then.

Some would argue there still never has been.

The Evolution of the Air Jordan 1 Low

The popularity of the Air Jordan 1 continued to grow and - in time - Nike realized they needed to expand the line.

With the introduction of the Air Jordan 1 low came a whole new crew of fans...university students, excited to wear a shoe that represented their school colors, just like athletes had begun to do with their teams.

Loyalty has always been important to people and wearing the colors of our favorite sports team or university will never go out of style.

The creative and innovative designers at Nike saw another opportunity...create an Air Jordan 1 low in university colors!

Air Jordan 1 Low UNC: The Beginning of Colors and Styles for All!

Most basketball fans already know that Michael Jordan began his career at the University of North Carolina playing on their award-winning basketball team from 1981 to 1984.

Being one of the all-time greatest college basketball players gave Nike an idea.

Why not design an Air Jordan 1 that will pay homage to Jordan's career on the college basketball court, while also giving UNC students, fans, and alumni a way to show their pride in the school?

With this idea, the Nike Air Jordan 1 Low UNC was born!

The Air Jordan 1 Low UNC is the low-top edition of Michael Jordan's famed Air Jordan 1 that he first wore in 1985 while playing for the Bulls.

This Air Jordan 1, however, is the low version of the shoe, making it more accessible for those who want to wear it off the basketball court as well.

Though the shoe still features the official images of the Dunkman on the tongue and the Air Jordan wings on the heel, it has some differences from the original as well.

The crisp white leather is nicely offset by the University Blue and UNC grey color block. Fans will also appreciate the University Blue sole and black nylon tongue as well, which is as comfortable as it is stylish.
