Every once in a while, a shoe hits the market that takes the whole sneaker collection world by storm.

A tried-and-true product is given a facelift of sorts that wasn't fully expected, but suddenly -- no one seems to be able to live without it.

Though the A Ma Maniere Air Jordan1 was first teased back in the summer 0f 2021, the official release of this shoe didn't happen until November of 2021.

Even then, the release felt pretty select and the first A Ma Maniere Air Jordan 1 sneakers could only be obtained through a lottery system.

Nike had announced their partnership with the Whitaker Group, who made it clear in a press release that the A Ma Maniere Air Jordan 1 was being released after being “inspired by the Black community’s pride, power, influence, and resilience in the face of adversity, difficult conversations, and injustice."

After this announcement, sneaker fans everywhere became even more determined to get their hands on a pair of these high-quality and luxury sneakers.

Eventually, by late November, the A Ma Maniere Air Jordan 1 was becoming more widely available, though not all retailers could get ahold of it.

Nike decided to release it to only select Air Jordan 1 retailers, keeping the air of intrigue high as well as the demand.

That said, Nike has confirmed that there will be more release dates coming and that the A Ma Maniere Air Jordan 1 isn't riding into the sunset quite yet.

Some critics have gone to the mat over the A Ma Maniere Air Jordan 1, saying that they are still unclear on what all the excitement is surrounding this sneaker. They claim that it's an impractical shoe for regular wear and that the Nike A Ma Maniere is more gimmicky than any Air Jordan 1 ever released.

But for the thousands who have either bought the shoe, or are still waiting to, there is nothing gimmicky about the A Ma Maniere.

The Packaging

When you first peel back the well-crafted "A" tissue paper and wrap your fingers around the shoe, you can't help but notice that the quality of this Air Jordan 1 has set the bar high for future Air Jordan 1 sneakers to come.

First, you'll notice that the cream-colored, suede-like leather upper has almost a silver sheen to it, thanks to the interestingly "crackled" look and feel of the shoe.

Of course, the A Ma Maniere would not be an Air Jordan 1 original without the inside of the collar flap sporting the famed Michael Jordan signature with one of his now-infamous phrases, "You have to expect things of yourself before you can do them."

To top it all off, the well-known Air Jordan 1 Wings logo is emblazoned into the leather on one side of the shoe.

From the snakeskin look of the Swoosh, to the crackled leather and quilted inner lining, some would say this shoe is over the top for an Air Jordan 1 High OG.

That's right. We are talking about none other than the wildly popular and much-loved Nike Air Jordan 1 basketball shoe.

From that famed season when fans all over the world watched Jordan make history on the court in Chicago, the sneaker world - as well as the athletic world - has forever been changed.

The History of the Air Jordan 1 Sneaker

Interestingly, this iconic shoe almost didn't happen!

Michael Jordan had spent his college career playing basketball for the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, wearing the Tar Heel Blue and playing in his beloved Converse sneakers.

His first recruitment after his wildly successful career at UNC took him to the courts of the Chicago Bulls, a team who had fought hard to win the rookie.

And though Michael Jordan's first rookie season began with great success, there was one issue at hand for the young baller.

He wanted to represent and wear his well-loved Converse basketball shoes. But Nike was as determined to win him over as the Chicago Bulls had been.

Jordan was stubborn in his loyalty to converse, but Nike was more so. At one point, the higher-ups at the brand even begged his parents to bring him to Nike's campus in Beaverton, Oregon, promising him that they were going to design an entire signature line around the younger superstar, making him offers that almost seemed too good to be true.

But Michael Jordan wasn't convinced. Not only did the deal really sound too good to be true, but he also had another issue.

He didn't like the look of the Air Jordan 1, the name that Nike was proposing for the shoe.

First, he felt the soles of the new pair of shoes were too thick. He was having a hard time feeling the basketball court under his feet.

The other problem was the colorway. Michael Jordan understood the importance of the shoe's silhouette representing his new team's colors, but he felt the bright red and black looked "clownish" and that people wouldn't take him seriously.

Eventually, Nike did make some changes to the sole of the shoe, taking out some of the padding and creating a new Air Jordan 1 that gripped the court better.

But the colorway was here to stay.

And the rest, well, is obviously history.

Michael Jordan wore the shoe. And no one thought he looked like a clown. In fact, quite the opposite.

From the moment that Jordan stepped on to the Chicago Bulls basketball court, fans were won over by his new sneakers.

Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG Lost and Found

And, the controversy only increased their popularity as the Air Jordan 1 soon became known as the "Banned" sneaker of basketball.

The reason for this was based on rules and regulations that governed America's National Basketball League at the time. According to a letter that was sent to Nike from the then NBA commissioner (that's now widely available), Jordan was fined $5000 per game, since every time he wore the black and red high tops, they broke the league's uniform rules.

Interestingly enough, this did nothing to slow down the popularity of the shoe. If anything, it helped the Air Jordan 1 climb to stardom even more quickly and eventually become one of the highest-selling and most popular brands of Nike sneakers to date, even all these years later.

How the 1985 Air Jordan 1 Has Changed

Throughout the last three decades, Nike and Michael Jordan have made many changes to the Air Jordan 1, but for the most part, the sneaker continues to have the same classic and iconic look that it has always been known for.

Perhaps the most significant change to the sneaker is in the wide variety of colorways that have been introduced over the years.
