Michael Jordan and the 1982 NCAA National Championship

It has been more than 40 years since this day went down in history as being one of the most iconic moments in basketball.

No matter who you were rooting for, no true basketball fan will ever forget this day.

It was March of 1982 and the University of North Carolina Tar Heels were playing against the Georgetown Hoyas for the NCAA championship title.

Both teams had made it past countless others to be where they were facing off...in the New Orleans, Louisiana Superdome.

At the time, Michael Jordan was a Freshman on the UNC Tar Heels team.

But despite his rookie status, Jordan's incredible athleticism and leadership skills were already putting him on a solid path to becoming a star in that first season with the Tar Heels.

But what happened that March day in the Superdome would advance his popularity and stardom much more quickly than anyone had yet to predict.

In a well-played and exciting game, the Tar Heels were trailing when there were just seconds left on the clock. Despite their deep bench of talent, they just couldn't seem to get past the clear talent that Georgetown also had.

With only a two-point difference, Jordan found himself with the ball with only 15 seconds left on the clock.

He deftly made the 16-foot jump shot, bringing the score to 63-62. Georgetown got the ball back, but quickly lost it and the rest was history!

This NCAA win marked the first one for the North Carolina Tar Heels since 1957 and the game that would truly launch Jordan's career for the next many decades to come.

In April of 2022 - forty years after the University of North Carolina's win over Georgetown - Nike designed a Air Jordan 1 High that pays a bit of homage to that incredible and unforgettable moment.

Designed in the Georgetown Hoyas color scheme, this Air Jordan 1 is a classic throw back to some of the very first Air Jordan 1 High sneakers ever made in 1985.

Similar to those original Air Jordan 1 High silhouettes, the Air Jordan 1 High 85 College Navy follows the same colorway patterns and overall design of the shoe.

Starting with a classic two-toned color blocked look, like the original Air Jordan 1 sneakers introduced, the Air Jordan 1 High 85 college Navy sports a smooth grey leather upper and the classic College Navy overlay, both the colors of the Georgetown Hoyas.

This is why the shoe is also sometimes referred to as the Air Jordan 1 High 85 Georgetown sneaker as well.

Along with the sharp colorway, the Air Jordan 1 High 85 also sports a yellowed nylon tongue with a woven Nike label, which gives a great nod to the appeal that older models of the Air Jordan 1 High still hold.

Continuing the vintage-style look are the white wings logo on the neck of each shoe and the white and navy air sole on the base that fully completes the design.
